Description

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO HURRICANE HELENE DAMAGE. WE WILL BE RESCHEDULING FOR THE SPRING.

The South Coast Chapter and Beaufort County Passive Parks are teaming up to tackle invasive Chinese tallows at Wigeon Point Park. The program will start off with a breif educational program on invasive species identification with County Naturalist and Coastal Master Naturalist, Destiney Rains. Then, we will follow Park Ranger and Lowcountry Master Naturalist, Bradley Owens, into the field to start plucking out pesky tallow trees. We will NOT be handling chemicals. All work will be manual! Think of the satisfaction you'll get each time you pull out a Chinese tallow knowing you're giving back to your local natural spaces!

When: October 3, 2024 from 9am to 12pm
Where:  Meet in the parking lot of Wigeon Point Preserve, 43 Okatie Hwy, Okatie, SC 29909. Google Maps Link
What to bring?: We will be working during this program pulling tallows! Be prepared to bend over or get low to the ground for long periods of time. Please wear comfortable long sleeve shirts, pants, and close-toed shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Bring lots of water, snacks, sun protection, bug protection, gardening gloves, and a cushion to sit or kneel on while we pull tallows. Restrooms (port-o-lets) are on site.
