South Coast Virtual Chapter Meeting

Join us for our regular chapter meeting, held virtually this time! We are super excited that our featured guest speaker is Sharleen Johnson! Sharleen will be presenting on "Gardening for Native Bees". This talk will feature photos of bees native to the South Carolina Coastal Plain; details about their biology and life history; native plants and microhabitats to add to your gardens to attract and support these beautiful and ecologically important insects; and guidance about how to maintain your yard to create valuable year-round habitat for the delightful diversity of pollinators that call our region home! You won't want to miss it! After our guest speaker, we'll go over chapter business. 

Sharleen worked for 9 years as a marine ecologist for the SC Department of Natural Resources, previously working as a high school science teacher and in non-profit medical research.  She began blending her expertise as an ecologist with her lifelong interest in gardening here in Charleston.  In March 2022, Sharleen launched her native plant nursery and habitat garden consulting business: Native Plants to the People.  Her passion -- and now profession -- is helping people to add natural beauty and habitat value to their home landscapes.
