Description

Join us at Huntington Beach State Park for a native plant survey! 

Ranger Mike Walker will lead volunteers to monitor for the endangered dune plant, seabeach amaranth (Amaranthus pumilus). Learn about reintroduction efforts and do your part to help conserve this species! Participants will take part in a survey looking for naturally recruited seabeach amaranth plants along 3 miles of beach. Huntington Beach State Park will provide transportation to drop off volunteers in different sections of the beach. 

Cost: Free! Participants will get free park admission if they mention that they are with SCNPS. 

Time: 8:30AM- 11:30AM

Location: Meet at the North beach parking lot (turn left after you come over the causeway, all the way at the end of the road past the Nature Center)

This volunteer event involves high exertion (walking on sandy beaches, standing for extended periods, being outdoors in the heat. Participants should wear light, loose-fitting clothing and bring plenty of water. Sunscreen, hats, snacks, and other personal items are recommended.
