Description
This field trip is an opportunity to view the magnificient purple fringed orchids (Platanthera psycodes) with our native plant expert, Dan Whitten, in their summer splendor at Mount Mitchell State Park! Learn more about this species here.
This field trip is scientific in nature and considered to be of low intensity. Walking through the park will be on trails that may be paved and unpaved, click the park link above for visitor information. There are no fees required to access Mount Mitchell State Park for day use. Donations to the park by SCNPS members and guests are of course appreciated.
Those interested in carpooling should meet at Mountain House Inn & Suites at 9:00am to drive in to the park together and arrive around 10:30/10:45. Carpooling is not mandatory, and those interested in driving themselves may meet the group at the park at 10:30am. Those who would like to carpool together from the Travellers Rest area should message Upstatefieldtrips@scnps.org for more information.
