Summary

Join us and Xerces Society Ambassador Brad O'Brien to hopefully see fireflies!

Description

Meet at the pavilion in Lynches River County Park  at 8:30 PM. The fireflies won't come out until after sunset, but this will give us time to walk to our viewing spot before dark and observe birds and other wildlife at dusk. If you get lost, or have any last minute questions, feel free to call me: 803-260-7643.

Trails at Lynches River County Park are not difficult to walk, but they can be uneven. We'll likely encounter roots, rocks, etc. that can cause the trails to be uneven. Depending on the weather, there might be muddy areas.

Good walking shoes are highly recommended! Sandals, flip flops, etc. probably aren't the best options for this event.

Bring a red light. Fireflies flash to attract mates, and artificial light can hinder their efforts. Red light is less harmful. Most headlamps have a red light setting, and I'll try to have a few extra red lights available.

Apply bug spray only at the pavilion.  If you plan to apply insect repellent, apply it at the pavilion before we head out into the woods.

There will be an additional waiver to be signed at event. SCNPS requires a waiver for all field trips (that is included with event registration) however Lynches River County Park also requires a waiver to be signed for participants.

Feel free to email peedee@scnps.org with any questions!
