Presentation: How Carolina Native Nursery Grows Native Azaleas from Seed

Locating and harvesting seed, cleaning, sowing, waiting, caring for, transplanting, caring for, transplanting, selling……there’s a tremendous amount of work that goes into it. Bill will review all these steps and more, bring examples for many of the steps, and walk us through the whole process. And answer your questions.

Bill is President and Founder of Carolina Native Nursery. Bill resigned from sales and marketing with AT&T in 1991 to be the founder and President of Terra Systems  in Charlotte, N.C. specializing in organic-based lawn and shrub care services.  He sold Terra Systems to Scotts. Inc in late 2001.  Bill is a member in good standing of many national and local environmental and horticulture organizations. He has served on many boards and commissions throughout his career. He currently serves on the board of the Asheville Botanical Gardens, Bee City Asheville, and the Legislative Committee of the NC Nursery and landscape association.  Bill founded Carolina Native to aid in the preservation of the plants, birds, butterflies, bees, and the rest of the flora and fauna that make western N.C. one of the truly special places in the world.

Bill lives in Asheville with his wife, Jill. His son and daughter-in-law, Will and Hannah, live in Atlanta and his youngest son, Henry, lives in NYC.

Join us for our September monthly meeting at the Hughes Main Library in downtown Greenville (and via Zoom), where we welcome Owner of Carolina Native Nursery, Bill Jones.
