Description

Spring Field Trip!

Date: April 25, 2026

Location: Chestnut Ridge Heritage Preserve in Landrum, SC

It’s that time of year - spring wildflowers in South Carolina!

Chestnut Ridge is a favorite for many wildflower enthusiasts.  Please join this hike led by Dan Whitten to enjoy trillium, bloodroot, chickweed, violets, Solomon’s seal and many others.

Directions:

We will meet at 10:00 at the Chestnut Ridge Heritage Preserve Parking lot in Landrum.  The parking lot is on Oak Grove Church Rd., 0.9 miles from the intersection with SC 11.

If you are going from the Columbia area or further south and are interested in carpooling, we will meet at the Hardee's on Piney Grove Rd. and I-26 at 7:30.  Please contact Betsy Russell at 803-749-7986 if you wish to carpool.

What to Expect and What to Bring:

If the group is up for it, we’ll do a more strenuous 5 mile walk with about 1000 feet of elevation, but if not we’ll walk about 3 miles.   Bring water, a lunch, weather-appropriate clothing and, if you use hiking poles, bring them along.  You may want to enjoy a closer look at some flowers with your hand lens.
