Description
Join us for a kayak trip through the Waccamaw River Heritage Preserve. Grand Strand Board Members Cara Schildtknecht and Maeve Snyder will lead a paddle to see the unique flora of the preserve. This stretch of the Waccamaw River is a SCDNR protected property and is home to several rare plants. We will be keeping our eyes open for the Plymouth Rose Gentian, which blooms in early summer. We will learn about riparian plants, explore the beautiful blackwater swamps and sandbars, and maybe even stop for a swim!
BYO Boat - Please bring your own kayak/canoe and life jacket.
What to expect: This will be a slow, non-strenuous paddle (less than three miles) but is not suited for first timers. Please make sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, hats, bugspray, snacks, and other personal items (e.g. medications). Dry bags are suggested to protect valuable items.
