Description

Registration Opens 2 Weeks Before the Trip

Join us Saturday, February 21st from 10am to 12pm for a tour led by wildlife biologist and Clemson university Ph.D. candidate Crystal Anderson, who will share her incredible research into the connections between people and plants, plants and pollinators, and their convergence in a community outside of McClellanville. We will begin our day at a community garden on the grounds of Howard AME Church to discuss why gardens like this matter. This project was partially funded by a SCNPS Community Gratn, and field trip participants will have a chance to provide input on challenges and opportunities inherent in public garden spaces. Then, we will visit the nearby Hampton Plantation State Historic Site to observe how field survey methods are used to assess wetland ecotones and pollinator communities. And for anyone who is interested, you yourself can have a hand at conducting suvey protocols to learn how this important research is actually conducted.
