Join us Saturday November 22nd from 10am to 12pm to visit the new native landscape at the Lowcountry Land Trusts' Conservation Center led by landscape architect extraordinaire Erin Stevens. Registration opens Saturday November 8th.

Description

The Lowcountry Land Trust does critical work for the region preserving precious pieces of property for generations to come, and they have just opened there new Center for Conservation, a gorgeous building made of reclaimed brick and wood, all surrounded by a landscape designed by THE Erin Stevens of Surculus -- a landscape design firm that specializes in native plants and resilient landscapes for the lowcountry. Join us Saturday, November 22nd form 10am to 12pm for a tour of the grounds, located adjacent to Charlestowne Landing. Erin will share with us her beautiful native plant palette that she chose to highlight for this important gathering space, including insight into the design considerations of the space, including its hydrology. After the tour of the gardens and a glimpse into the fantastic Center for Conservation building itself, which is worth its own separate field trip some day, we will have a chance to explore the fringes of the property with weed wrenches in hand! Sadly, the edges are peppered in privet, which fortunately we are prepared to remove.

Some tools will be provided, but it's a good idea to bring your own pair of gloves, wear long pants and sleeves, and plenty of water to drink. A shovel, weed wrench, or loppers would all be welcome! Please note that invasive plant removal using mechanical techniques can be quite trying; however, there will be tasks suited to all levels of exertion and ease, including removing and bagging invasive seeds for safe disposal, dragging vegetative debris into a pile, and working as a team using a weed wrench or shovel to uproot these invasives where they stand!
