South Coast Plant Walk at Coosawhatchie Heritage Preserve
Location
Description
The day before our first Membership meeting of the season, we'll be heading out into the field with Nancy Adamson, SC Biologist for the USFWS, to explore one of our newest DNR Hertiage Preserves and Wildlife Management Areas - Coosawhatchie HPWMA. This new preserve protects over 10,000 acres of diverse lowcountry habitats. We will be meeting and exploring the "Buckfield" tract of land, located near Yemassee, SC. Our foray will take us through upland pine savannah and lowland deciduous forest floodplains, the likes of which we don't typically see in our area. We will be caravanning through this property, ideally carpooling to minimize our impact on the landscape!
When: Sunday, September 14th, 10:00 am - until.
Where: Coosawhatchie HPWMA, McPhersonville Entrance, 25025 Pocotaligo Road, Yemassee, SC. We will be meeting at the Information Kiosk located at this Google Maps Link. Carpooling is encouraged, and we can consolidate on site. There are NO restrooms other than nature at this WMA. Please prepare accordingly!
What to bring: Wear comforable shoes, sun and bug protection. Bring water, lunch or snacks, a hand lens, and a sense of adventure!
Spaces are limited! Registration is required!
